A new participant entered the footwear market of Kazakhstan very confidently
Young businessman Dastan Makhambetov, together with his friend and brother, founded the company Z-shoes. The guys sew women's and men's shoes, a factory was built not far from Astana. In an interview with the correspondent of the Kapital.kz business information center, the shoe master spoke about the substantial losses in the first three years of business and the first lines that began to line up at the store.
The company's success story is, perhaps, typical for businessmen who have a great desire but do not have the necessary experience. During the first three years after the launch of production, Dastan Makhambetov and his partners invested about a million dollars in the purchase of raw materials and equipment. However, the Kazakh consumer did not accept the initial product.
“We produced footwear under different brands, we did not have our own brand, we worked out wholesale orders, but we could not reach quality, we had problems with quality. Literally 8-9 months ago, I realized that, being here, in this information vacuum, I don't know how other shoe manufacturers work. I decided to go and see how they work in China, Turkey, Ukraine, Poland, traveled to a bunch of factories. With the world on a string, we came to what is now. ... The initial capital was an investment in equipment. There were also other costs: renting a workshop, training specialists, purchasing raw materials, a bunch of overhead costs, trips ... The amount we invested, we burned out, burned out by 90%. They didn't make a profit, they didn't even get their money out. And now it is too early to say that we are making any profit. The costs will accompany us for another two years, ”said Dastan Makhambetov.
To date, the production capacity of footwear makes it possible to produce up to 800 pairs per day. The demand that has developed in less than a year requires a daily output of 300 pairs. And this figure is growing. Astana residents appreciated the quality of the footwear and its low cost. A new benchmark that Z-shoes sets for itself is selling 100 pairs a day.
“Now we sell about 40 pairs a day, but this is not an indicator, not an indicator at all. I think we will come to this, I do not see any problems here, ”- Dastan is sure.
One of the manufacturers' trump cards is halal technology. According to the founder of the company, they follow all business principles allowed by Islam. The production does not use the skin of pigs, dogs, reptiles, snakes and lizards. Only veal, goat and sheep. The second is the refusal to work with resellers, which forms a fair price for products. The third is the opportunity for the client to get his money back if he didn’t like the shoes or if manufacturing defects were found.
“For example, goatskin. It is used inside the shoe. It is very expensive, not every manufacturer can boast, it does not paint the legs, there is drum painting, the pores are open, the leg breathes, very high quality leather. Domestic production - Shymkent, Kazakhstan. Turkish manufacturers of lining of such quality cannot provide. This is the trick of our manufacturers, we are not behind in everything, we are the best in this, ”said Dastan Makhambetov.
It should be noted that today, according to the Association of Light Industry Enterprises, the needs of Kazakhstanis for footwear are met by only 1-2% at the expense of domestic industries.
