The brightest technological trends at Web Summit 2016: how the world will change in the near future
Report from the world's largest technology conference.
The Web Summit is the world's largest high-tech conference. This year it was held in the Portuguese capital from November 7 to 11 and brought together more than 50 thousand participants from 15 thousand companies and 166 countries.
This was the first year for the Web Summit to have been held outside Dublin, home and base since 2009. The first Web Summit gathered 400 people, which even in those days was considered modest for such a conference. For 7 years, the conference has grown almost 15 times and has become one of the most important events for geeks and people who are sincerely and professionally interested in technology, and for everyone else.
What interesting trends did we hear at the conference, which of the world famous people did you see? Let's tell you now.
Star performances
Harry Vaynerchuk (VaynerMedia) - a cheeky star SMM guru who was born in Bobruisk (Belarus) and moved to America as a baby, developed an interesting topic.
Life as an entrepreneur is not easy, Harry says, which is why there is a surge in suicides in Silicon Valley. Many young people with a good education, instead of what they would have done before (went to a cool company for a good salary), start their own startups. But most startups go bankrupt within a year.
How to create a successful mobile app?
The special project "Mobile Development" contains the latest cases of large companies: from the ROLF application with online sales of cars to the environmental project SIBUR.

ADVERTISING
Harry scolded old ad models that distract and annoy viewers, users and customers; predicted the end of the era of traditional advertising on TV, radio, in magazines and on websites.
He also conducted a live experiment with the audience, asking, "Stand up those who are stressed when someone calls them on the phone?" About ¾ of the audience stood up, proving the speaker's thesis that most people now live so intensively that time has become an even more valuable resource for them.
Luis Figo and Ronaldinho have shown that they think not only with their feet, as many players unfairly imagine. Luis (formerly one of the brightest and highest paid players in Barcelona and Real Madrid), now 44 years old, has been developing the Dream Football project for 5 years, a mobile application for young football players that allows them to create a portfolio and interact with scouts and clubs ...
Ronaldinho, the Brazilian football megastar, is the face of the ZOOME brand, an online TV and video-sharing social network.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt , known as an actor and director (films where he recently starred: "Sin City 2", "Snowden"), fascinatingly spoke about his project hitRECord , which allows you to use crowdsourcing to create video, music, lyrics and all kinds of artistic works that can then be published and monetized.
The most important trends for the near future
Unfortunately, it will be difficult to list all the developments and discoveries that were discussed at the conference. Therefore, here are the main areas that will have the most significant effect on our lives, and, judging by the presentations, in the next 5 years they will immerse people even deeper into the world of fantasy.
Augmented reality
Robert Scoble "Scobleizer" - one of the most advanced people on the planet in the field of virtual reality, spoke about how advanced 3D sensors have become.
Very soon, you will be able to see much more through augmented reality glasses than we can even imagine. For example: the heartbeat of people around, the texture of the fabric, by which it will be possible to determine its manufacturer, and the amount of effort applied by the hand when holding a mug of coffee.
Insider 1: At Apple 600 engineers have been working on augmented (or mixed) reality for 5 years. Just during the conference, another patent was issued, and by the end of 2017, every Apple phone and tablet will have a module that will allow using these devices as the most advanced AR mask.
Drones
It turns out that taking cool pictures while flying after the owner is not their only possible purpose. Jonathan Downey of the world's largest drone company Airware , which applies its technology to the business of large corporations, made the convincing case that drones are an indispensable and indispensable tool for the inevitable process of technological evolution of all companies that have any physical assets.
The main beneficiaries of the development of drone technology are practically everyone involved in the extraction of natural resources, the construction industry, trade enterprises, warehouses, delivery and logistics. And a qualitative turning point should happen in 2017, when drones will carry out more and more work in inspecting and digitizing physical processes in these industries, increasing their efficiency and literally saving many lives, replacing the most dangerous professions.
Drones are also indispensable in matters of security and order protection, which will make the world around you more serene and save hundreds of lives of police officers (as well as criminals). Moreover, the latter will also become significantly smaller, since it will be much more difficult to implement criminal plans with such ubiquitous technologies.
Artificial Intelligence
Volkswagen CIO Dr. Martin Hoffman told how artificial intelligence not only helps robots walk, and computers beat people in chess and go, but can already be used to:
marketing;
building supply and demand patterns;
making decisions about prices for products and services of companies.
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is going into bots, and soon data entry will not always be done using the keyboard and mouse. And we will increasingly talk with our digital assistants and computers, entrusting all non-creative tasks to smart devices.
Cars without driver
Andrew Pinnington of HAILO (English rival Uber) predicts another era of car ownership. Already, to get from point A to point B, you can use a taxi or "temporary ownership" (fractional ownership) - short-term car rental.
Self-driving cars will drop prices to the point where purchasing transportation as a service will become much cheaper than buying a car to drive on your own.
Automakers face the daunting challenge of radically changing their business models. Selling cars to dealers so that they can then sell them to end users, as is done now, will be impossible in 3-5 years.
It won't matter to users which nameplate - Ford or Mercedes - is attached to the device that brings them to work and home. Therefore, even the most stable brands in the automotive industry will have to find themselves in this environment.
Inside 2: Cars without a driver will be on the streets sooner than we think. This was announced by Mr. Jan Hellaker from Drive Sweden. In 2017, a project will be launched in Sweden for the first time in which 100 families will use real autonomous vehicles. Now all such experiments in other countries are under the supervision of engineers who are still behind the wheel, and this is a really important step towards the commercial opening of transportation as a service. Sweden is the most suitable place for such research: there are as many as 5 global car manufacturers per 10 million inhabitants.
You can enumerate endlessly the useful technologies that the speakers shared here: big data, robotics, software, and the Internet of Things - everything is very cool and changes life for the better.
Startups
And Web Summit is not only a showcase for successful brands and businessmen, but also a launching pad for entrepreneurs who are ready to enter the global arena. Here young companies can find investors, clients or partners, as well as communicate with their peers and practice making presentations on stage and answering questions from competent but critical jury members in a pitch competition.
We just came here in the status of a startup and, as a result, have collected more than 100 useful contacts for the development of our company in foreign markets. If we manage to get a stand, like this year, we will definitely go to 2017. See you.
