Female beauty has been a topic of discussion at all times. In different
eras society formed certain criteria of external attractiveness, which
girls aspired to. However, beauty is an extensible concept. Looks that
were in fashion a couple of centuries ago have nothing to do with
modern trends. Let's look together at what standards of beauty
women relied on in different times.
Ancient Egypt.

Slender Egyptian women with high waists, narrow shoulders, plump
lips and green eyes were considered ideal

Ancient Egyptian women were free and liberated women. They had
as many rights as men, including the ability to own property, file for
divorce and inherit the title of Pharaoh. In many countries women
could only envy such privileges. Slender Egyptian women with high
waists, narrow shoulders, plump lips and almond-shaped green eyes
were considered ideal. The mirrors of the soul were emphasized with

black copper-carbon paint, and the nails were covered with a shade
of green.
Ancient Rome.

The Romans adored blond, blond and red-haired women

The Roman standard of beauty was stately and burly women, not
loose and flabby, but trim and graceful. Girls actively exercised to
keep in shape. The Romans adored blond, blond and red-haired
women, so they invented a way to lighten the hair. Girls would dip a
sea sponge in a mixture of goat oil and beech ash, and then bathe in
the sunlight for a long time. The procedure was performed regularly
by prostitutes in order to be in the greatest demand. Not only the
hair had to be light, but also the skin, which was bleached with lead
whitewash or a mixture of milk and beech ash.

Middle Ages

The standard was girls with oval faces, small mouths, pale skin and
high foreheads

Under the influence of Gothic art and the cult of chivalry, ideal
women evolved into more "fragile creatures." Beautiful ladies moved
gracefully, had slender, even lean, figures, narrow hips, small
breasts, and aspired to resemble a rose. The girls hid their excessive
slimness behind puffy skirts. They did not wear makeup or dye their
hair, as it was strictly forbidden by the church.
Over time, the religious influence extended even further into
women's beauty. Looking good-looking was considered a sinful act.
Women wore voluminous dresses that covered them from head to
toe, and their heads were covered with bonnets. The standard was
girls with oval faces, small mouths, pale skin, bright eyes and high
foreheads.

Nineteenth century

In the XIX century fashion and beauty criteria changed quite rapidly

In the nineteenth century, fashion and beauty criteria changed quite
rapidly. The playful and light Rococo style was replaced by classicism,
which was characterized by slender and stately figures. The
Napoleonic Empire valued opulent beauty, reminiscent of the
ancient Roman canons. Then came the era of Romanticism, where
the ideal woman was a thoughtful and dreamy person, staying in
eternal dreams of love. By the end of the century modern reigned.
An hourglass silhouette was a coveted figure, so women tightened
their corsets as much as they could, and wore puffed skirts with
tourniquets and decorated their heads with hats with feathers.
The twenty-first century

Nowadays naturalness and body positivity are in fashion.

Modern women break stereotypes and give preference to
naturalness. Today, an athletic figure, a snow-white smile, shiny hair
and healthy skin are valued. And instead of bony supermodels,
slender girls without anorexia and plus-size models walk the
runways.
