Math
Don't be confused by the prefix "mono". Talking about monochrome interior, we keep in mind color palette of some familiar shades, not single color, which absorbed whole space. Such interior can allow to approach other auxiliary shades: neutral and contrasty. Above all, one of the colors in the space must dominate. For the rest you need the right dosage.
In case of monochrome interior, shades-helpers are familiar to primary color, instead of accent color, as rule, there are white, black and neutral natural shade. you can't use exactly three colors in space, anyway some of the auxiliary shades appears in furniture finishing, in textile, in decoration. In monochrome design, it is recommended to use no more than five shades.
Light spaces dominated by pastel shades should be diluted with "whitewash". If you want more clarity and dynamics, add black contrasts.
Patience only
Total beige interiors have a bad reputation since the era of European renovation. The color is not to blame. Beige can look boring and old-fashioned only if the interior itself looks boring and old-fashioned. In a thoughtful design, the beige shade looks elegant, calls for calm, evokes natural associations and gives the eyes a rest.
Another neutral color with a dubious interior reputation is gray. He is often accused of being dull and apathetic. Although just a few years ago, grey mono interiors were a hot trend. And for good reason. Gray, as well as beige and other natural shades — this is a color that exists outside of fashion, tireless, neutral, and therefore win-win. In the skilled hands of the designer, gray and beige shades will not look boring.
In order not to visually over-cool the interior in gray tones, use a light wood contrasting in color temperature — the gray space will immediately become more comfortable.
The same shade looks different on different textures, which makes the space no longer seem monotonous, although its color component remains visually continuous. Shaggy carpets, velvet upholstery, decorative plaster, wicker furniture, metal accents, gloss, matte surfaces — the more textures, the more interesting the result.
Do not interfere with the interior and a portion of graphics in the form of an ornament in a related shade. The easiest way to add a drawing is to use textiles: blankets, bedspreads, and covers for decorative pillows.
Monochrome in neutral shades is a practical solution. When bright colors win back a lot of visual space, it may be a good idea in theory, but a tedious spectacle in reality. Neutral colors will never cause such an effect, and if the interior suddenly "gets bored", you can always add color accents in the form of decor.
Wow-effect
If you want a spectacular show, choose a bright or dark color.
To enhance the extravagant effect, you can avoid contrasting infusions of color. The floor walls and ceiling in a single shade will blur the visual boundaries of space.
For the role of "box" is ideal: study, dressing room, kitchen area, bathroom and bathroom. Using bright or dark monochrome in the living room scale is a controversial idea for a residential interior. it will certainly look spectacular, but it can quickly tire you out.
For the mono-interior of the bedroom, neutral light colors, as well as relaxing muted green and blue tones are well suited. Bright colors are not recommended. To make a monochrome interior a joy, choose the shade that you really like, rather than the one that seems the most fashionable or the safest.
